checking oil pressure
checking oil pressure
Decided to get a mech. oil press. gauge in order to get a more accurate reading (although today it was reading 40 at crusing speed). I'm just waiting for the metric adapter to arrive from Pep Boys. Will post results when I have them.
Re: checking oil pressure
I did the same thing and was able to finally have an accurate reading.

Re: checking oil pressure
Having pressurized hot oil in the passenger compartment never seemed like a good idea to me.
A friend had his gauge spring a leak when he was driving his 'new' Spider from Arizona to Missouri. Not the type of repair you want to do on the side of the road!

Re: checking oil pressure
Csaba, good point! I was considering this mod.... I think I can live with a little delay on the electric sensor more than oil all over the interior. In any event the oil pressure gauge is a piece of mind item in the event something does occur that may save your car someday.

Re: checking oil pressure
Well I did get the mech. gauge hooked up and the pressures were much better than the with the dash gauge: 40 at cold idle and up to 70 at 3000 rpm, obviously lower when it warmed and thinned. I was then thinking maybe I should just install the mech, gauge permanently but then the last two posts gave some some pause. If I did decide to do it how should the hose be routed and fed into the cabin?
Re: checking oil pressure
I got some thin rubber hose from auto parts and passed the oil pressure hose inside. Tape the whole thing in electrical tape and got into the cabin the same way the electrical wires go in/out. There is space there for a new small hose.
