I always thought this was normal but I've been reading that if the spark plugs are tight then when you turn over the engine by hand it shouldn't make a swoosh sound? Does this mean my piston rings are worn or head gasket issue? I did notice that the front edges of my head gasket above the tensioner look to be leaking a tiny amount of oil and that there was some oil residue in my coolant bottle but no oil in the rad. No coolant in the oil.
What should I do? Thx.
Air Sound when I turn the engine by hand?
Re: Air Sound when I turn the engine by hand?
You are certainly gonna hear the pressure releasing thru rings and valves as you turn engine over by hand. Engine runs good? Don't worry bout it.

As you turn it over, the air has to go somewhere ! There is always an inlet or exhaust valve open sucking in thru the carb or farting down the exhaust.
If you can hear it whoosh past the rings ..well.... She's KNACKERED mate !
One of the only faults with the design of this engine is that the oil pressure galleries fron the block into the head, are fitted with small steel dowel tubes to prevent leakage, but not the return drains. Goodness knows why as they invariably leak there at some time in their life. Just live with it till it gets too bad then pull the head and check things.
