Torqu specs for transmission pan

Post by TX82FIAT »

Folks, does anyone know the torque specs for a manual transmission pan. I suspect that the pan will be bent very quickly if over torqued. I kinda recall there being a balanced tightening approach with 18 lbs or torque. However, I can't find it and I can't seem to recall things I once knew clearly. I have a slight trans leak and just got the paper gasket in yesterday. Any home garage methods to straighten the cover if it was overtorqued (by me) to try to stop the leak in the first place.

Not 18! That's too much for even a 8mm bolt, and these are 6mm.
Probably somewhere in the 3-5 ft-lb range, basically just tighten it by hand. Make sure the bolt holes in the pan are not mushroomed.
I usually put aviation permatex on both sides of the gasket.

Thanks Csaba. I'll disassemble and clean tonight. I have a little permatex blue and can use that to put a thin coating on the paper gasket. I was thinking of putting some 6 mm washers on as well to dispuerse the load. tighten by hand and give it say another 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
