I've replaced the camshaft seals and I've taken the aux and crankshaft seal housings off and popped out the old seals. Much easier to get them off when you have them off the car. I like the those notches that the book said to use to punch out the old seals.
The good news is it looks like the aux shaft seal may of been the culprit to my front engine leaks as the rubber of the seal was hard as plastic! I cleaned the seal housings as they were really dirty using brake cleaner and simple green in a bucket with a tooth brush. Getting the old paper gaskets off the block was a PITA but using a razor blade I carefully got them off. Tomorrow I'm going to tap the seals in for the aux and crankshaft housings and install the housings back on the engine. As far as the housing and block surfaces what should I use to make sure the surfaces are free of old gasket material? Brake cleaner on a rag and plastic putty knife?
Should I put a coat of fresh oil around the housing recesses where the seal is tapped into or just coat the seal inner and outer parts with oil and then tap in?
Last thing what should I use on the seal housing bolts, thread-locker, oil, or anti-seize before torquing them to spec? First time doing this type of job, appreciate any advice and tips! Thanks in advance.
