weak trunk springs
weak trunk springs
the trunk springs on my 1979 Fiat Spider seem to be no longer strong enough to hold up my trunk lid. i looked inside the trunk and the springs seem to be on the last spot on the bracket to stretch them. any suggestions. i would like to thank everybody that has helped me on my journey towards total Spider bliss. (just not there yet) LOL

Re: weak trunk springs
I went to my local jobber store and bought a couple of smaller diameter springs and with a bit of fiddling, got them inside the bigger springs. Trunk stayed up with a rack on afterwards. Have since taken the rack off and all is good.

Re: weak trunk springs
i never thought of doing that. thats a good idea. i was pondering sliding back the spring cover and putting a couple of zip ties along the spring to make it a little tighter. thanks for the tip

Re: weak trunk springs
Based the above discussion I placed a nylon tie on each of my springs and now the trunk stays open! Now I need to get some black ones that won't be quite as obvious as the white ones.
Re: weak trunk springs
cool beans, thanks for the great ideas. i think i might try the zip tie route first (less work)
