Question about gaskets and seals...

For the crankshaft and aux shaft seal housing paper gaskets, do I use any gasket sealer, if so what kind?

For the front engine seals, what parts of the seal do I coat with engine oil before installing them? When should I install the aux and crankshaft seals in their housings, when the housings are off the engine or when they are in place on the block. Just want to make sure.

cant speak for the gasket seealer.. put them one when off of the engine... its just easier... as far as coating with oil it will be obvious... just go slow putting them back on as you will need to massage the new seal around the shafts when installing them back on the block

Ok preparing to do all front engine seals and gaskets tomorrow. I got the stock radiator out this evening, actually got the rad out,spal fan, and Marks cooling fan sensor kit together as one assembly. Couldn't do that with the stock fan last time.

...but guys I'm still not sure what kind of sealer to use for the paper gaskets for the aux, crankshaft housing. What do you guys use? Should I coat the paper gasket with black RTV or just use Permatex® High Tack™ Gasket Sealant or do the paper gaskets go on dry?

I like to use permetex Hylomar gasket dressing. It is made to be used with paper and cork gaskets.
