Low oil pressure

Post by pertyfly »

Hey guys -

Some of you may remember, I had the body of my 78 spider redone last year. While they did that, I rebuilt the engine. It has new everything. All bearings, and pistons, oil pump, etc etc. I did the initial break-in, and all was well. During the first 500km break-in, however I noticed the oil light would come on after it warmed up for a while, and only when coming to a stop. All other times it was off. I stopped using it after that and put it away for the winter. Now I just got it out this weekend, and I am trying to figure it out. An engine builder friend suggested it might be the oil pump-block gasket. I just removed it, and it looks okay - no blowout and it looks like it was seated, etc. All bearings appeared to be in spec when put together.

Any suggestions, it's an 1800cc?

One question: The oil pump has one round hold and one slotted hole for mounting... The slotted hole has a cap just under the bolt head.... The gasket at that point was not sealed, and I'm wondering if for some reason, somehow that whole slotted hole in the pump housing is pressurized with oil, and maybe that's where it's losing pressure?

Anything else? I'm desparate! Spent all this money, and I'm getting really tired of this oil pressure problem, and I can't drive it! :-\

Thanks all,
Chris
