Ok took the big dive and dropped the car off at my mechanics to begin a complete engine rebuild which will include the following:
R&R ENGINE
STEAM CLEAN ENGINE COMPARTMENT
DISASSEMBLE ENGINE
STEAM CLEAN BLOCK AND HEAD
BORE CYLINDERS, HONE, DECK, HOT TANK, MAGNAFLUX
REBUILD BLOCK, RODS, MAIN BEARINGS, HAVE CRANK GROUND/POLISHED REPLACE OIL GALLEY PLUGS
DYNAMIC BALANCE W/JASON MILLERS 10lb FLYWHEEL, NEW CLUTCH, JASON'S FRONT PULLEYS
HOT TANK HEAD, PORT, POLISH SMOOTH COMBUSTION CHAMBERS, MATCH PORTS TO INTAKE/EXHAUST CHAMBERS
MARK ALLISON'S SNAKE HEADER
BIG VALVES, ISK SPRINGS, 3-ANGLE CUT VALVE SEATS, BRONZE VALVE GUIDES
MARK ALLISON'S 274FI INTAKE AND EXHAUST CAMS, MILLERS ADJUSTABLE CAM PULLEYS
MODIFY AUX. CAM FOR #2 CON ROD
REPLACE FRONT T/B F/CRANK GEAR HOSES ETC. ETC.
CSABA'S 84.6MM 9.8 to 1 PISTONS
BOIL PRESSURE TEST ORIGINAL RADIATOR
IF ANY MONEY LEFT GET WILWOOD BRAKE KIT AND MARKS ALUMINUM RADIATOR
ALREADY SOME INTERESTING FINDING AFTER ENGINE TEAR-DOWN

While it's out you should consider replacing the following as preventive maintenance:
Water Pump
Oil Pump
Guibo (Rubber Donut)
U-Joints
Center Bearing
Water Pump
Oil Pump
Guibo (Rubber Donut)
U-Joints

Mike, when that engine is all degreed in and back in the car... You'll have some tired smile muscles.. It will have that extra zip you wanted and still be quite drivable if stuck in traffic. The car will get you up to the Kispiox in no time

Per Guy Croft, the 2 liter crank cannot be ground undersize without destroying the hard surfacing. Can only be polished. If it is out of specification due to wear you will have to source a new one or a used one that is in specification.

Do not have the block hot tanked. The auxillary shaft bearings are pressed in then honed to size. The correct bearings have been unavailable for some time, but I think a few vendors now carry them. If you hot tank the block the aux bearings will be ruined. There is little load on the aux shaft and the bearings are usually good so replacement or disturbing them is not recommended.

Thanks for the pointers guys, i forgot to mention that Water Pump is being replaced, he tested the oil pump and thoroughly cleaned, the Guibo (Rubber Donut) is being replaced, as are the engine mounts. Matt i have sent him an email about your comment and i thought it depended on the detergent you use in the process???????? Regarding the crank it was going to be drilling rather than grinding and i think they do some heat treatment so that the nitrided metal integrity is not compromised but i will double check that as well. Its suppossed to be done by the end of next week. Have a good weekend and thanks for the advise. Joe my mechanic, has been working on only fiats for the past 40 years so i think he is pretty versed in all the proper methodoligies and techniques, but hey we all can learn from others with more know how and experience. I will put a bunch of pics up this weekend or next week.

Here is a link to a discussion about the issue of regrinding 2 liter crankshafts on Guy Croft's website. He also covers the topic in his latest limited edition Workshop Manual, "Modifying and Tuning Fiat/Lancia Engines". Guy has a tremendous amount of experience modifying Fiat engines for performance. I would not discount his experience on this.

How is your 2L performance build up going is that what has the megasquirt on it, how do you like the megasquirt? I am thinking of buying VAS's wilwood big brake kit, what sold was the ability to use the vented rotors bs. The whoa non-vented, what do you run for brakes?
