Carpet old vs new RESOLVED

Post by 4uall »

I have removed my original carpet which is in really good shape( just dirty from life's journeys). I have plans to purchase new carpet from Home Depot etc and replace. My question is: what is the best way to clean the old carpets? I may just hang on to them if they come out nice (photos to follow.....of course).

You'll probably find the original carpet has faded a lot. Also from what I've seen the home depot kinds of replacement carpet don't even come close to the orignal. Which is fine if that is all you want.

Something to note,

If buying Generic carpet - make sure it's marine grade or marine carpet that is UV stabilized, since it will be exposed directly to the sun.

from the day I bought her I had no illusions of restoring her. I do however, want to appreciate her for the beauty she is. I have read the link posted about carpet replacement here and I plan to follow it.

The carpet replacement threds are great. Has anyone found the indoor outdoor Olefin type rubber backed carpet in the maroon color that was stock for some of our spiders? I could easily use a black or dark grey but the balance of color on the original is perfect.

Use a stiff scrub brush and Griot's Garage Interior Cleaner on the old carpets.

I hope the mention of the name "J.C.Whitney" is not sacrelig but in years gone by, I bought replacement carpet sections for an MG B from Whitney. The quality was okay, the price was okay and fit and match were pretty good.

It has been twenty years since a whitney catalog has been in my house. But look at the website reveals that their product range and marketing philosohpy seems pretty well unchanged.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Tnx,
