replacing injectors

Post by nadman009 »

My old fuel injectors were sitting for 20 years so its time for new ones. I ordered replacements from rock auto, however im having some difficulty actually installing the new ones. I assumed that I could load the fuel rail with the new injectors, hoses, and o rings and just stick it all right in but the o rings dont seem to fit. Is there a trick to getting them in? Im trying them one injector at a time now but I cant figure out how to fit the bigger o ring inside without the injector pushing it through.

And I've been using gas to lube them but it doesnt help much.
Thanks

The smaller seal on the injector fits well right... then the larger one that supposedly fits on the rear of the injector and supposedly fits in the opening is a tad too big.. What shape are the old big seals in. I believe the smaller ones actually do the sealing and the bigger ones help isolate the injector(and some sealing) from the aluminium intake. I had bought some seals from a local jobber store and the large seals were too big as well. I used the older ones that I thought were in good shape and have not had an issue to date. I do remove/replace the injectors together when mounted on the rail. I find I can get the clamps tight as it can get a bit fiddly when mounted. There is about 35 psi going through the hose when running and a not quite tight enough clamp(s) will develope a leak and being above the alt and starter is not a good place to drip/leak fuel... so make the (proper injector) clamps tight.

WD40 makes a much better lube than fuel.

Ok thanks Iill see if I can find some smaller washers. I used both actually - Wd-40 first then gas because I remembered reading I should use gasoline. My old big seals are totally gone, more like crumb cake then rubber anymore( and besides the fact they came out in pieces  )

I'll get new orings and see if that makes the difference, which it probably will.
Thanks again
