I am in the process of rebuilding the front suspension on my 80, new control arm bushings, ball joints, repacking the wheel bearings and stripping everything and repainting the parts while i have them out. My oil pan has a big dent in the bottom in it and was gonna pull the oil off and take the dent out.
1. I am gonna take the crossmember off to take the oil pan out and support the engine at the bellhousing. will the frame spread when i take the crossmember out?
2. will a 1800 pan fit on my 80 2l ?

Re: Oil Pan
1. No, the frame will not spread.
2. No, they will not interchange, the 2L pan is deeper.

Re: Oil Pan
Use a MIG to tack weld a bolt on to the sump in the middle of the ding. Pull it out with a slide hammer, cut the bolt off with an angle grinder.

Do you know that you don't have to take the crossmember off to get the oil pan off?
Just jack up the engine, drop the pan, unbolt the oil pump (very close quarters), and then it will fall off.
