1608 piston to cylinder clearance...?
1608 piston to cylinder clearance...?
Searched and all I found was an old thread no one responded to, anyone know what the piston to cylinder clearance is? With the head off, 2 of 4 cylinders look good with no wall scarring but there is no cross hatching, 2 of the bores have some signs of scarring but I can't get a fingernail to catch on any of it. One of the pistons displays significant 'wiggle' in the bore. I've got no metal in the oil or the pan, will be pulling the pan to inspect the bottom end, but I fear this block may be due for a refresh. My fear is that it's already got 80.8mm pistons in it and everything I've read says that's the end of the line for the 1608 block. Which means new block (impossible/$$$ to find) or change to a 1.8...

Re: 1608 piston to cylinder clearance...?
il dig out my shop books and look for the clearances, but i have bored 1608 to 81mm with no problem, with that being said, if the block was bored correctly for the current pistons and the cylinder wall has no ridge, i would fit new rings, check the endgap and go from there
