Drove in to work this morning, and as I parked and turned off the car, the motor seemed to diesel for about 3-4 seconds and continue to run with the key off. Was very odd and has never happened before in this car. I decide to pop the hood and take a peek just to make sure all is well, and I see some strange liquid in the float bowl vent and on the side of my carb/air horns. Looks almost like very dark, discolored motor oil or something. There wasnt enough to coat my fingers and determine if it was slippery though. I checked down the throats, and they were clean and had no residue close to this. What is it? There was also a little bit around the right air horn where the horn slides into the throat of the carb, but it obviously seems to have come from the bowl vent. My fuel filter and and float bowl are both full of clean, clear gasoline with no debris or contaminants.

dieseling may be caused by an internal carb leak
