confuse on the spark plug wires

on my 72 i see that the cap is marked ( all ignition caps are ) \ 1234
firing order is 1342
now we got 4 plugs and the number one wire goes to 1 / 2/2 3/3 4/4
am i right? this is how the 72 is with a 2 liter engin

i guess what i am trying to say i am having a hard time getting this miss out of my 80 2000
i did ordered new wires , so the fireing order are all the same , I ASSUME. and the way the wires are connected should be all the same I ASSUME

or am i way off base?

yes. numbers on the cap go to the same numbered cylinder.
