Hi,
I just recieved my new clutch plate assembly in the mail. I opened it up to find a disappointing gouge in the disc that presses against the clutch. Could you please take a look at the below pictures and tell me if it is anything to worry about (really wanting to put my car back together) or if I should package it back up and send it back to the vendor. The gouge is about a finger nail deep.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Clutch Plate Assembly Question
Re: Clutch Plate Assembly Question
That is minor damage. I'd venture to say completely insignificant.
Go over the area with a straight edge though, and check for a high spot. If one exists, file it down flat.

Re: Clutch Plate Assembly Question (pics of assembled engine)
Thanks again for the assist on whether or not to proceed with the gouged assembly. Since I'm thinking everyone else loves pics as much as I do, below are a few pics of my engine ready to go back in the car.
Tonights progress:
- Timing belt (old one had less than 50 miles but I wanted to play with intake/exhaust cam alignment)
- Set valve lash to spec
- Replaced clutch assembly & throw out bearing
- Installed Distributorless Ignition System

"wanted to play with cam timing"
Do you have adjustable gears?
Do you have adjustable gears?
Re: Clutch Plate Assembly Question
No adjustable gears. I've just had a hard time getting the timing right since the rebuild and it looked like the exhaust gear was possibly 1 tooth off and when both aligned as closely as possible to pointers, the crank pully seemed about 5 degrees after dead top center (I let my son and his buddy do that part when I rebuilt the engine and then I forgot to double check them). I figured while I had the engine out again fixing the clutch (another part I let them do... lessons learned) I would redo the timing and align with the marks on the cam casing and make sure I was at TDC on the crank pully. I also double checked the gap between the cam lobes and tappets to make sure that was good.So Cal Mark wrote:"wanted to play with cam timing"

I thought about adjustable gears when I was rebuilding but without alot of time and a readily accessible dyno I didn't figure it would be worth the money.
