starting issue

Post by mik »

I have not attempted to do engine or carb work on my '69 124AS Spider. According to my supplement that came with my instruction book, my car has a Weber 26/34 DHS A carb. I don't think I am getting gas in my starting attempts. I was able to put gas into the carb and it would start. I would like to check and see if the filter is all gunked up. It has been in my garage many years without much running. Problem, where is the fuel filter located on this car and is it an easy task to get at it? Thank you for your help.

The fuel filter in my car is in the fuel line. The line that goes from the fuel pump to the carb. It's real easy to change. I've had a completely clogged fuel filter. It happened while I was driving.

It could also be the fuel pump.

if your 69 is stock, then you have a mechanical fuel pump located in the block below the carb. there should be a hose that run directly from the carb to the fuel pump. pull the hose off the carb and put in in a jar. turn the key to the start position and see if it pumps gas. if you have gas, then you have a carb blockage issue. If you dont have gas, then the problem is upstream from the carb.

thanks for the info, I went out to start the car and after three turns of the key, it started right up. The air cleaner cover was off and I thought I read somewhere of this happening to someone else. Is there something else other than the fuel filter now that it started, but with the air cleaner cover off. Thanks
