Been driving my 72 a lot this summer. Oh what a feeling! And really pretty dependable, so much so that it has been a few years since I have done anything under the hood, other than clean out the idle/low speed jet every spring
Had that poor idle thing going on the other day, and been noticing a loss of mileage, so I whipped it into the shop and actually opened the hood, and hooked to my equally old engine analyzer. Dwell at like 80. Jeesh. Pulling cap indeed revealed an almost non-existant gap. Gapped the points, set the timing, cleaned the idle/low speed jet, WOW I have a whole new car again!! ZIppy, smooth, powerful. Oh, and I noticed on the scope, coil polarity is backwards!! Fixed that too.
A little tinkering goes a long ways sometimes...
Keith
PS I wonder when the last time the valve clearance has been checked....
Fifteen minutes......
Keep it on topic, it will make it easier to find what you need.
