Factory approved jacking points?

Post by Torxx »

I need to lift my Spider with a floor jack and place it on 4 jack stands. I need help determining the correct places to position the jack and the stands.

P.S. Are older posts gone from the forum? I know the answer to my question was here, but the older posts seem to be gone???

Thanks

when the forum came back online, it was on a new server and new format. Unfortunately the old posts couldn't easily be converted to the new format. So although they are archived, they're not accessible in this format.

In back of the front wheels, and in front of the rear wheels, are square sheet metal 'pads' under the rockers, you can see them clearly. I jack there when changing tires.

I usually put jack stands right under the rear axles as close to the suspension point as possible. This way the rear shocks and suspension bushings are not over stressed, and if you are going to bleed the rear brakes you need the axle supported anyway. Where you place the stands in front also depends on what kind of work you are going to do. A good spot is where the frame rail, crossmember and lower A arm meet. It is always good practice to use a piece of wood between the car and the jack stand to spread out the weight.

The most important thing is safety. Don't crawl under the car when the only thing holding it up is a jack. Especially when you are trying to break free a stubborn bolt or nut. Before I get under my car I always try to give it a push in a forward/backward direction, and push it in a side to side direction. And maybe give it a few bounces to make shure its stable and won't easily fall off its supports.
