Vick Auto Cooling Kit?

Post by BartusCompater »

I found this cooling kit on eBay and it looks like a killer deal compared to ordering all of the parts individually from IAP. Should I jump on this? Does anyone have any experience with this kit?

I ended up with mark's kit. The radiator has worked really well so far this summer. It just started getting warm the past couple weeks, low to mid 90's. The temperature gauge stays pegged just past the middle. and I have had no overheating issues. The best upgrade I have made so far.

I checked the Allison automotive website and all I saw was the fan switch wiring setup, do they sell radiator/fan/hose setups?

Oh cool, what exactly is included in the kit? Is there a listing online anywhere?

I don't have it listed yet, but will soon. It includes the aluminum radiator, adjustable fan controller, 14" electric fan, upper and lower radiator hoses, hose clamps and the brackets and hardware needed to mount the radiator and lower the sway bar and instructions

Mark, does your fit ALL years? (I never though to ask before, but 've noticed the Vick's listing above only lists the 79+

You'll need to get different hoses if you have a right hand mounted alternator. Found that out when I dropped in my new engine with right hand alternator mounting. The hose fouls oin the alternator, so you need to get 2 longer hoses from napa, one from the water T to the thermostat, one for the thermostat to pump

What are the mods I would have to make to install this aluminum radiator set-up in my stock 1438 cc 1970 spider?

you have to remove the lower radiator saddle from the core support and both studs from the side mounts. The kit is designed to work with an external thermostat. If you want to use the internal stat, a different lower hose has to be sourced

So Mark, would those modifications be unnecessary on a 79+ Spider?

Also, would the Vick's kit require any modifications to the mounts/suspension? It says there on the listing that it won't but I'm wondering if there's anyone with actual experience with the kit who can testify to that?

If I can just order everything from IAP for a little more money then I'm tempted to do so since it looks like it will all just snap right into place without too much effort. If I had all of the time in the world right now it would be a different story though, since these kits (which have a lot of performance parts included) seem to be priced very very well.

What would be involved with switching to the external thermostat? Is that included, and with all of the necessary materials to adapt to the car's existing wiring?

the mods are still needed on a 79+ car, but the lower saddle bolts on so it's easier to remove. The external stat is not included in the kit.
