I've been trying to cleanup some unconnected wires on a 78 124 spider. The set in this picture all come from the driver side, through the firewall and into the engine.
The two wires on each end (L/R) have power when ignition is on, the others do not.
First question...The wire on the far left is one of two wires that are joined and connect to the idle solenoid on the carburetor...anyone know what the other wire is supposed to go to?
Second question...is it normal to have this many wires that don't go anywhere? What was/is their purpose, anyone know? Should I just clip them all back to the firewall and forget about em, or leave them in place?

Re: Wire Question
Those are for the ignition, idle flow shut off, diverter valves, and fast idle controller. Sounds like your car was de-smogged, that's all the normal left over stuff.
You can see where it all goes here:

On diagram 4 (page 6) are all of those wires and where they end up.
As to your question, I never snip stock wiring. Abandon in place, bundle out of the way, but don't chop it.
