Electric Fuel Pump Upgrade

Post by HawaiianSpider »

Hello All,
I plan on upgrading from my mechanical fuel pump to an electric one. I have read the previous posts and plan on putting it in the trunk positioned 1/2 way up the tank positioned at a 45 degree angle. My question regards to what appears to be a pressure regulator that is currently positioned in-line just before my mechanical pump. Do I still need this device with an electric fuel pump or do I go straight from the pump to the carb?

Thanks,
Mike

your mechanical pump normally wouldn't need a pressure regulator, and the electric pump will only need one if it's high pressure. The new pump should have a pressure range spec sheet with it. If it's more than about 6psi you'll need a regulator. Most low-pressure pumps are in that range and can be plumbed straight to the carb

While we are on the subject of electric fuel pumps:
I own a 1982 Spider that has an electric fuel pump mounted on the wall of the driver's side engine compartment. Should I move it to the trunk?

Thanks,

your 82 should be injected, the oem pump was on the rear unibody below the level of the fuel tank. That's the ideal spot
