Oxygen Sensor

Post by yap123 »

Howdy,

Is replacing the oxygen sensor a regular maintenance item? Should it be replaced at certain intervals? Will there be a difference in the performance of the car?

Thanks,
Clint

Cars used to have a light that came on and said to check the sensor or replace every 60k. Modern sensors are better, and F.I. systems run cleaner too. IMHO as long as the thing doesn't deviate from normal mileage and has no check engine light then let it run. Usually a bottle of injector cleaner will clear up most problems either way. We used to take the sensor off and put it in a vice and heat it up with a propane torch, cleared the carbon and made it show good volts and that was good enuff. Making it show it's true colors...
