I've started on a timing belt replacement project, along with replacing the exhaust-side cambox gasket, and upon removal of the timing belt cover, found the exhaust side timing mark on the T is broken off.
There are small raised marks on the engine itself, apparently lined up with the timing marks, are those alright to use as marks?

Maybe someone will chip in with some wisdom but you should be able to see how the lobes are positioned in the cambox to determine if the exhaust cam is aligned correctly. Double check this information, but I seem to recall the #4 lobe pointing toward the 1:00 position. You can make sure of this by looking at the two holes on the cam pully. They will be positioned at around the 1:00 position, mirroring the intake side which would be around the 11:00 position. That is if you made sure the engine was at tdc before beginning work.

Re: Timing belt replacement.
there is a small boss cast into the cam housing, and that's a better alignment spot than the pointer. If you're not sure of the alignment, stick a drill bit through the hole in the cam gear and see if it lines up with the cast boss

Ok, thanks for the replies!
When I lined up the cam pulleys prior to removal, they didn't exactly line up with the marks; should I line them 'more accurately' when placing the new belt?
