Clutch Pedal Return Spring Goes "BOING!"

Post by opus10583 »

HI,

After searching around here a bit I'm inclined to accept the noise my Clutch Pedal Return Spring (CPRS) makes in the last 10mm of travel on return, a cartooney spring "BOING!", despite indicating something metal-on-metal binding somewhere, is not a critical issue, but it sure is a quality of life issue and I'd like to fix it.

Has anyone here had any success short of removing the spring?

Thanks,
Mark

i suspect that wear at the ends is binding the spring slightly and then releasing it. the proper solution would be to pull the spring and fix the wear spot. may try to lube the contact point.

replacing does require some technique. the secret is to stretch the spring out while it is on the car and insert coins or washers in the coil gaps. this saves body parts and bodily fluids when reinstalling.
