Distributor number

Where can I find the distributor number on my 78 124 Spider? PerTronix needs it to see if they have a electronic ignition kit for my car. Thanks!

Its stamped on the base of the distributor at the mating flange where it enters the cam box. Regardless the Pertronix MR-LS1 is the kit for a 78 dual points distributor.

Matt,

Do I have to remove anything to see it? Hurt my back so can't do much for the next few days. Lower back spasms from digging fence post holes today. I'm getting to old for hard work! Thanks!

grab a small make-up mirror from your wife. if she doesnt notice it gone in a couple of days, store it for her in your tool box. 8)

Maybe, maybe not. It depends where the numbers are stamped and how the distributor is indexed. Take a sharpie marker and make a mutual mark from the distributor down onto the cam box. Loosen the lock nut and rotate the distributor to see the stamping numbers. Rotate it back, line up the sharpie marks and tighten it down.

Funny(not really), I threw out my back today too. Usually happens 2-3 times a year, and I'm only 31. Today I sneezed and threw it out. Never had that happen before.

Thanks Matt, hope your back gets better. I'm 62 and have had lower back spasms for the past 10 years. I get them after doing a lot of bending over when working on my cars or doing yard work. Then I have to take muscle relaxers and rest for a few days and not do much of anything for the next couple of weeks. After that I am good again for a month or two. I have to do stretching exercises everyday and those help but doesn't fix the problem.

PerTronix had me send pics of my dizzy and told me NO, they don't have a kit for it BUT for $300 they would make one. Well, my points are staying right where they are!

Wow nothing like being both wrong and a dum bass (me).

Does your distributor have the advance mechanism on top?

Heres a link to a conversion kit from Auto Ricambi from points to electronic for 68-78 point distributors

http://stores.auto-ricambi.net/-strse-1 ... Detail.bok

It doesn't say it in the listing but it does say Pertronix in link

Here is the response from PerTronix regarding your post:

Ken,

Yes, it's our MR-LS1 Ignitor kit and it fits some Marelli distributors,
except for the dual point distributor.

I installed the Pertronix set-up on my (formerly) dual points dissy. Set up worked(s) great. Replaced it with distributorless system to solve a hood clearance issue. If anyone is interested, I'll sell the whole set-up cheap - it's just collecting dust.
Set up: Pertronix ignitor installed in stock distributor. Distributor has been polished. New cap and rotor. Pertronix Flame Thrower coil, Magnacor performance wire set.

I'd take $125.00 shipped.
