Air cleaner causing cold start issues.
Air cleaner causing cold start issues.
I have a stock 78 Spider and purchased a new air filter. Now when the car is cold, it won't start until I remove the air cleaner lid. Then it starts right up. It runs fine with the lid on, only issue is starting. Nothing clogged. Could for some reason the new filter is causing a cold start problem? This is a California smog car. Thanks!
Re: Air cleaner causing cold start issues.
So nobody else has ever experienced this problem? My next step is to remove the filter leaving the air cleaner lid on to see if that makes a difference. Then I will pretty much know if it's the filter or not.

There was a post similiar to this a few weeks ago methinks.
This is something that kinda defies logic, and a little testing--putting back in old air filter---trying without new AF in etc, should reveal the issue. It's usually something simple. Let us know.

Re: Air cleaner causing cold start issues.
Ok, went for a drive with the air filter in place, runs ok but seems to rev poorly. Has a hesitation when you hit the gas pedal in neutral. Then took it for a ride without the air filter. Ran better and little to no hesitation when rev the motor in neutral. So I think it's a tune-up or carb adjustment. I can't believe it's just a paper filter causing the problem. Thoughts?

I do not believe a filter could be causing issues unless is is totally clogged. Your problem must be something else. Accelerator pump ok?

It's a brand new filter so not clogged. I'm thinking carb need adjusting as not getting enough air?TulsaSpider wrote:I do not believe a filter could be causing issues unless is is totally clogged. Your problem must be something else.
