Interior questions
Interior questions
I have a 1978 Spider and am removing, repairing, replacing many interior parts. Unfortunately the Shop Manual is little help as it is not year specific and lacks in diagrams. I also have Haynes and Clymer shop manuals but they also don't address much on interiors. Is there somewhere I can get better information? Things I am looking for are wiring for lights on heater/defrost controls on lower center console, location of stock seat belt mounting points, removal of upper center console to install new radio. I see good pics of door trim removal and want to repair door inner locks/rods to work smooth. Any suggestions and photos/diagrams will be appreciated. Thanks! ken

Re: Interior questions
For my 1973; yours should be identical:
Lighting for the console HVAC controls is via fiber-optic cable, with the lamp assembly in the dash.
Stock seat belt mounting points are threaded holes in the floor pan. Note: all seat belt mounting hardware (worldwide) is SAE, never metric.
Upper console is removed with 4 screws located on the sides of this console. The only point of attachment is along the seam to the lower console

Re: Interior questions
The center console fiber optic light came loose and the plastic clip is dangling. I don't know where it goes back. Is there some kind of clip it fastens to? Location? I got the seat belts and upper console figured out.

Re: Interior questions
Up under the dash is the fiber optic light bulb, it is mounted to the dash cross bar between the steering column and the center console. There are 5 fiber optic wires that come off that bulb fitting. One goes to the tiny defrost window near the heater fan switch under the emergency brake handle. The other 4 wires go to the 4 corners of the chrome heater control betzl. Interestingly one corner has a fiber optic light, but the plastic window is blacked out. They attach with tiny white plastic clips that hold the fiber optic wire up into the clear "plastic windows"

Thanks Matt, one must have come loose or was not connected. Maybe I can lift the console enough to see where it goes. BTW, I had some old house carpet that was close in color to the tan carpet for the car so I think it will be close enough to not be noticed too much.
