I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I bought a 1981 Spider 2000 Pininfarina a few weeks ago and have been working to get it on the road. The car is definitely a project car, but it should be fairly easy to get it road worthy. I had some small repairs to make as this car's previous owner allowed it to sit for a few years, and let others take parts off it - like the cold start valve, ignition wires, etc.
I put all the missing parts back in and filled the radiator. I found a water leak coming from what feels like a threaded hole in the bottom of the intake ports. I can't see the hole, but it feels like it is dead center of the manifold. Water is freely falling from this hole without the engine running. As best as I can imagine it is a port for some sensor or switch (temperature sensor/switch maybe?).
Anyone have any pointers?
Thanks!
Mike

Mike,
Welcome to the forum, stop by the introduction section and tell us a little about yourself and your car...we love pictures.
Yes, there is supposed to be a sensor in that hole. I'm a carburetor guy and don't mess much with the FI stuff, so I don't know what exactly the sensor does. One of the other members will chime in and disclose its purpose. Our usual vendors should have that sensor. I also have a used one, its yours for the price of shipping.

Re: Water leaking from under intake manifold
Thanks Matt! I did find a pigtail that did not appear to have a place to plug into. I'm betting this sensor is where it goes. And I'm wondering if the hole can be plugged without impact to drivablity/fuel system function.
I would love to take you up on your offer. How can I get you the cost of shipping...

Re: Water leaking from under intake manifold
The part is a "manifold temperature probe" not to be confused with the temperature sensor located at the coolant outlet by the timing belt cover. The Fiat part number for the manifold temperature probe is: 4393600
"And I'm wondering if the hole can be plugged without impact to drivablity/fuel system function. "
If its a sensor for the FI system...its there for a reason, and unplugged most likely will cause issues.

Re: Water leaking from under intake manifold
Its for the thermotime switch/sensor. The FI system needs it to operate.
Any of the vendors will sell them. around $25-30.00
