fifth gear whine

Hi all,
What would cause a whine which only occurs in fifth gear? Otherwise,the tranny shifts great and doesn't pop out of any gears but I'm hoping this is not a sign of problems to come. I've had the car about a year and put on about 1000 miles with no problems but now that Spring is coming (?) I'm wondering if this is something that I should take care of soon. I really can't afford a tranny rebuild at this point. Thoughts, anyone?

Probably got a bad bearing. Make sure it is full of fluid and drive it. No telling, but it will probably last a long time and get gradually louder. At the same time, there are metal filings running around in your trans wearing and tearing on everything....your call.
