Hey all,
I just recently picked up my 77 two weeks ago and have been doing a bunch of maintenance and cleaning under the hood. I was poking around under the hood yesterday while rewiring the cooling fan, and noticed that the PO had removed the air pump for the emissions system from the pulley system. Upon messing around with it, it appeared to be seized as it refused to spin at all, leading me to think that it has been like this for awhile. Since the system is no longer working, I've decided that I would like to just remove it, to create some space under the hood and remove the tons of hoses that go with it. As this is my first spider, I am not familiar with the emissions system at all. I was wondering if anyone has done this before (I'm sure there is) that could give me some advice on what can and can't be removed, and what is the best way to go about it. I can provide some pictures if they would be of further help. Thanks in advance.

Re: 77 Emissions System
It depends on where you live. California requires all the emissions controls stuff to be operational for a '77.

I'm located in NH, and according to the DMV only vehicles from 1995 and on are tested for emissions.

You can remove the air pump and all hoses leading to and from it.
To plug the four air injector holes in the cylinder head, you can use p/n 99642A205 from McMaster-Car. Five to a package.
