Tune-up mechanic in Sacramento area
Tune-up mechanic in Sacramento area
I am looking for a mechanic in the Sacramento/Roseville area that can check and tune my 1978 124 Spider. It passes Calif Smog and I want to keep it smog legal but I also want to get the best performance I can and still keep it smog legal. I don't mind a few aftermarket parts to help that can be switched back to stock for smog checks. But nothing major. Any ideas and info on someone who knows these cars? Thanks !!!

Hey Ken,
I live in Ione and am willing to help you out if you are so inclined.
I work as an aircraft mechanic and do the auto thing as a hobby.
Let me know if you want to talk.

I might have to come look you up some time. I really would like to find someone close that can check my carb, timing, and do a good tune-up. Maybe some minor mods to get some low end power. Not sure if the motor is worth doing anything to. Who knows what is been through over the years? Thanks for the offer and I might take you up on it!
Ken

If by "tune up" you mean the standard stuff for a points ignition system, I can help you out there.
Even the carb adjustment isn't that tuff to handle. I have a friend that is a professional mechanic and has owned and worked on the 124's in the past. He has been my guidance for those areas where this little beast deviates from my experience as a Chevy Camaro guy.
Anyways, he has checked me out out on all I have done to my '75 spider. I am driving it 450+ miles every week as a commuter.
I have a tach/dwell meter and a timing light as well as a bit of experience from tweaking and tuning on my old Chevys.
So gimme a PM if you like and we can setup a time to tweak on your '78

Re: Tune-up mechanic in Sacramento area
If your car passes smog it is in a pretty good state of tune, your car has 8-1 compression so there is not a lot you can do, but you could advance the timing several degrees for a little boost in power and less restrictive exhaust would be good for a little more, at least it would sound faster!
