crashed my 78 spider, need to find value for insurane. HELP

Post by kowgrl »

I adore my 1978 Fiat conv. I got hit n front rt.fender and hood. It was hit by a girl who ran a stop.I will get reimbursement but Im afraid they will deem it totaled. I want my car back, period!
I need to try to argue the value,it was in great shape,1 prior dent no rust. Well,so on. Any help or guidance is appreciated in where to find comparables. Preferably fiats hat already sold.

They will total it. No question. What you will want to do is buy it back from them.
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

You would have to show pic's and explain what you have on the car and condition to get a good estimate. Unless you plan on using the low end value. Even then, some cars aren't worth low end book value.

Unless you and your insurance company have agreed upon a value for your Spider when the policy was written or renewed, the maximum you will receive from them is book value. I don't have my "book" handy; will look it up for you next week.

All the "before" photos, documentation and receipts will not change the outcome, I'm afraid. That's why "Agreed Value" is so important when insuring classic cars.

Hey Trey, why argue? Looks good to me.

Kathy, no matter what you can save the wheels.

As others have said, collector car insurance with "stated value" terms is what we all need to have.

Where are you? In the meantime make sure you let us know how this turns out as we all benefit from our collective experience. I hope you are able to save your Spider, but in the worse case, you can find another one, there are nice ones around, you just have to be patient and keep looking.

Good luck, we are all pulling for you.

Thanks
It so happens they deemed it totaled. My insurance isn't paying, the other drivers is.
Havnt got a number on amy but for some reason the insurance guy called it a pinnafarina.or however its spelled.
I said.yep..(its not).maybe he thinks its worth more now.
I will buy it back however it goes.[g]

NADA is a "bit" high? They must have some pretty good crack they're smokin! Kowgrl, where are you located? This forum is full of very knowledgeable Fiat owners that will be helpful in referring you to a shop that can get your car fixed the right way.

Good luck,
Jeff
