Static timing settings for 2L FI

Post by wikkid »

To work on getting this '84 spider started, should the timing mark be at 0 degrees (TDC) or set at 10 BTDC?

Otherwise, get cam pulleys to set on their marks;
Aux pulley set at about 1:00 position, and disributor rotor set to cylinder 4 position.

Should this cover it, at least until I can get it going and hook up a timing light?

I really should go ahead and do this inconjunction with a new belt (and maybe new tensioner bearing, from what I have read on here?), but I am anxious to get the car running first, just to hear the state of things.

I think FI is factory set a 5 degrees but I don't see a problem with 10. Don't forget to set it with the vacuum advance hose disconnected.

I start off at 0 deg.(cam wheel holes at the marks for tdc and crank mark on the long pointer(tdc/0deg)and the dist rotor about to contact #4 pin in the cap. Once it is running,then turn the dist till the 10 deg point is lined up with the mark on the crank wheel.
Getting close eh... I can't wait :)
Watch your hand on the manifold ,it gets hot quickly.. a stubby 17mm works best down there
