how tight should the hub nut be

new bearings in the front...inner and outer...how tight should the hub nut be tightened and also it looks like there is no cotter pin....i think i am supposed to hit the nut with a punch or a big flat head screwdriver at the indents .... is thatt right.... thanks in advance.... matt

According to my FIAT Service Manual, tighten the hub nut to 14.5 ft lbs and spin the hub several times in both directions to seat the bearing, then back it off and tighten to 5 ft lbs. Stake the nut with a punch and hammer both sides. FIAT make a special tool for this, but I have never seen or used one.
