34 ADF Repair Question

Post by cbmeadors »

I've got a Weber 34 ADF carb but the brass fuel outlet tube (return line) is broken off at the housing. I've done some searches on all the usual suspects for carb parts (e.g. pierce manifords, redline, etc)- but I don't see this part. Any of you helpful souls ever been able to replace one.

I've got a 32 ADFA that I could rob to get the pipe if i have to (assuming i can get it out of the housing without destroying it)- but i'd prefer not to take apart a perfectly good carb if i can avoid it. Any insights on where I can locate a replacement? or on how to actually perform my this operation?

I've never done this before, but since it appears to be a brass fitting pressed into the carb housing, my first though would be to heat the housing and try and draw the broken pipe out by taping a screw in there. Then- to replace I'd freeze the new fitting and heat the housing and hopefully get enough clearance to fit it in there.

Alternatively, would it be possible to simply swap the top of the carb housing from my 32adfa to my 34adf?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards- Chris

Those brass ports are an interference fit and are just tapped in. If there is a piece still above the surrounding aluminum housing just grab it with vice grips and twist it out. If its broke off flush with the carb housing the threads on a lag bolt or large wood screw should be able to bite into the inner diameter of the brass tube, then pull it out using the bolt/screw.

I have several of those tubes I could send you, then you just tap it in, maybe add some JB weld for good measure.

Alternatively you could get a screw in type brass fitting from a plumbing supply store, drill and tap the carb housing, then screw it in.

The top from the 32ADFA might fit, but the throttle bores will also be smaller. That mismatch may create a flow loss and upset the jetting or air fuel mixture. However it may be so slight that you just adjust the idle mixture screw. Unknown territory here, but trying it won't hurt the car.
