carb working right?

Post by donm »

Does anyone know how I can figure out if the 2nd barrel on my 28/32 is working? When I look down into the carb while pulling the accelerator cable all the way while the engine is running I can see the primary barrel opening up but the butterfly valve on the 2nd barrel just sits there. Shouldn't it be opening up?

I'm asking because in an early post I mentioned that under hard acceleration the engine cuts out momentarally until I ease up on the gas a bit.

I believe your carb has a vacuum pot to open the secondary, so the engine has to be under load for the secondary to open. The car should be really slow if all you have is the 28mm primary working

you're right about the vacuum pot and the car seems to have great pick-up so I guess I can assume the secondary is working. Thanks for the quick response, Mark. Now if I can just figure out why the engine sometime cuts out under hard acceleration I'll be real happy.
