Motor oil: Shell Rotella T 15W40

Brake fluid: Whatever stops the car. Dot 3 is good enough.

I use Castrol 15/45 Diesel oil. Has the zinc content need for our engines. No idea on brake fluid.

A note on brake fluid - DOT 4 is compatible with DOT 3, but DOT 5 is a silicon-based, not a glycol-based chemical that is absolutely not compatible with 3 or 4.

The really stupid thing is that DOT 5.1 is back to glycol, and compatible with 3 or 4 systems, but NOT with DOT 5!!!

I'm not sure when DOT 4 or 5.1 came out, but DOT 3 was probably the prevalent fluid at the time most, if not all, of these cars were made.

Rotella has reduced it's ZDDP content for the newer style diesel engines. You guys may want to investigate this. I have been using Royal Purple in my gokart engines with very good results. After reading a little more about it, I may just use it in my Fiats as well:

Collector's Choice 30W

OTR diesels now have catalysts too, and their new oil spec reduced levels of zinc and phosphorus.
Other oils acceptable for our engines are ENI 20W-50 racing oil, Castrol GTX 20W-50, and Valvoline Racing 30W.
Mark also sells an additive shot for use with modern oils.

There are about eleventy-two threads on this subject, and Google will deliver a million more.

valvoline durablend 20w-50w... I had been using valvoline 20w-50w racing oil for years... I tried the durablend and I think it is better. I use it in my old toyota 4runner definately an improvement there as it has high miles...I will probably try it in my v6 next... as for brake fluid not too picky there just dot3... :)

I use Brad Penn 20W50 in both the Fiat and Porsche engines. It comes highly recommended. It's the former Kendall GT green oil.

Hmm - I am seeing a lot of folks using 20w50..... but I thought Fiat manuals spec 15w40. I'm new to Fiats, so could any of you 20w50 users enlighten me? I use 20w50 motorcycle oil in my V-Twin motorcycles - never thought of using the same thick, heavy grade it in a car.

The 1800 engine, for example, cAlls for 30W or 20W-40. Not much available in 20-40, so folks use 20-50
