Right now my 32/36 DFEV is installed on the stock '79 manifold but I want to switch to the earlier 1800 manifold as I keep hearing that it's a much better intake for this carb. I was wondering what's the reason for the better performance, is it just because it gets rid of all the emission tubing and stuff?
Another question regarding the manifold is my car has an automatic transmission(Fathers fault:|) and the automatic transmission has a modulator that has to be hooked up to a vacuum source to shift properly, will I have a problem finding a vacuum source to hook up that tube with a 1800 intake manifold. Thanks.
Single Plane 1800 Intake Manifold Question
Re: Single Plane 1800 Intake Manifold Question
your modulator needs manifold vacuum and the fitting for the booster should have an extra nipple that can be used.

Thanks Mark!
While I have the cooling system drained again, maybe its a good time to do this manifold swap!

On our US-spec spiders, the carbs had both vacuum secondaries which need the dual-plane manifold or mechanical secondaries which need a single plane. Since most owners prefer the throttle response of mechanical secondary carbs, the single-plane manifold is more sought after.

Re: Single Plane 1800 Intake Manifold Question
maybe I can chime in here. I've got a 79 2000 and doing the carb/intake swap. The 1800 intake is very
much a plain jane intake. carb on top ported to the cylinders. It's smaller in size, and not encumbered by
a large water jacket and yes all the spaghetti of tubing. Get one and a new gasket and you'll understand
when you have the 2 side by side.

Re: Single Plane 1800 Intake Manifold Question
A while back I bought a partial engine gasket set from IAP for my '79 that included the intake manifold gasket is this the same style gasket or do I need to buy a earlier gasket? What years had the 1800 Manifold?

Re: Single Plane 1800 Intake Manifold Question
seeing as how the 1800 intake will bolt right up to a 2000, I'd say the gaskets are the same, but
install a new one when you replace the intake. Old gaskets is asking for trouble here. Water
jacket in the intake will let you know. Spray hi tack Permatex on both sides before installing.

Re: Single Plane 1800 Intake Manifold Question
you can use the carburated 2000 intake gasket, the egr cavity in the front can be just cut off. be sure and plug the egr pipe on the exhaust as well or you will have a strange noise{exhaust leak} coming from the intake

The gasket is still new in the package as I never used it.minimike wrote:seeing as how the 1800 intake will bolt right up to a 2000, I'd say the gaskets are the same, but
