Advice on custom trailing arms
Advice on custom trailing arms
I am looking for some advice from the suspension guys here. Since my floor pan is all custom and the mounting points for the long trailing arms have changed I was thinking it would just be easier to make new arms out of DOM tubing and QA1 rod ends. This will be cheap and easy, but I am wondering how much the ride will suffer with solid mounting points? I am much more concerned with ride quality than auto cross handeling. Any advice is welcome.

Re: Advice on custom trailing arms
IF you are looking to make custom trailing arms for the spider, take a look at UB Machine,
http://www.ubmachine.com/trailingarmmounts.html
There is no problem running with the Heim joints at the axle end but use one of the Rubber trailing arm mount at the vehical side (see link above), this will help isolate the road noise. Most of the UB machine part can also be bought direct at UB machine or at pitstopusa.com if you like to order online.

Re: Advice on custom trailing arms
I am using 5/8" chromoly teflon lined heim joints. I don't know the manufacturer but they are inexpensive as I purchaesed them from my local speed shop. I am also using shedule 80 steel pipe for the trailing arms. Super strong and durable. I have tested these and found the road noise to be very minimal. I think it would be alot higher if you were to use steel lined heim joints... avoid those... but the teflon lined ones work great.
Hi Ted Great bumping into ya!
