Brake problem and pulls to the right
Brake problem and pulls to the right
After a catastrophic right lower ball joint failure ("Clickity click BANG AAAHHH" thread). I have replaced the ball joints, A arm bushings, and wheel bearings on both sides. Now I have two problems. 1 pulls to the right and gets worse under braking. 2 after making tight slow turns like into parking spots the brake peddle will go all the way to the floor, then on the second push back to normal. I have new tie rods, center link, and bearing idler on order. Those items along with an alignment I think will fix the pull, but I have no idea why the brake needs two pumps after any sharp turn. Any ideas appreciated, thanks in advance.
Re: Brake problem and pulls to the right
I would sure check your bearing adjustment. If the hub is loose on the spindle and you turn, the resulting wobble will push the caliper piston back a ways into the caliper, thus it takes a few strokes to push it back out.

Wheel bearings is a good catch. Do your best to follow the somewhat arcane procedure to adjust them.
In regards to the pull problem, it may be fixed by the above. I would look at your alignment and your general brake system, particularly around the ability of the calipers to slide (are the parts clean, smooth and were they lubricated properly).
Since you will be removing the calipers to do the bearing adjustment it won't be too difficult to work through the brakes as well. The alignment likely should be done by a pro.

Re: Brake problem and pulls to the right
Found it, the brake problem anyway. When I installed the new flexible brake lines, I didn't pay attention to the position of the old ones. With the spider on jack stands it looked like the bent metal caliper end of the line should point up. Wrong, they were hitting the upper A arm when turned hard thus pushing on the caliper, flipped hoses no more brake problem. still pulls a little waiting for steering parts. BTW does anyone know where I could get the clamps for the tie rod tubes, both Vicks, and IAP are on backorder. Thanks
