New spring questions

I'm getting ready to redo the rear suspension and drive shaft of my 79 spider. As it has the original springs, I think it would be a good time to replace them.

Any suggestions on replacement springs? How much stiffer do performance springs ride than the OEM? Any suggested vendors?

Your springs should be fine. If the rear end sits up higher than the front you can try and cut half a coil off and see how she does then. This will lower a bit and also a little stiffer ride. If you get new performance springs they should be installed in sets of 4 and will also lower the car a bit and a little stiffer ride.

But, the left side of the car is a little lower than the right. I think the springs have sagged over the years from carrying my heft. Also, I plan to do the front shortly after finishing the back.

Hi Bob,
I just replaced the springs on my wifes spider with International Auto Parts performance springs, KYB shocks, and all new front suspension components. It seemed a little stiff ride wise when I first drove it. Then they seemed to settle in( Or I got used to the ride). What a difference. Feels like a new car. Now my wife informes me she wants new rims and tires!
Next I thought I would spread the wealth around so I ordered all the same components. But this time I'm trying Vicks springs and throwing a set of front and rear anti-sway bars on my spider. Haven't gotten all the parts yet due to back order issues. After reading the recent post about failing ball joints I really don't want to drive my spider until the front end is done. No reason to tempt fate.
Certainly a worth while repair and a definite confidence builder if you intend on driving a little aggressively once in a while :D George

I once had the front A arms replaced, by the A-arms that were complete, and had the grease fittings. Both failed within 3 years. Luckily, I wasn't traveling very fast when they failed.
