Hello and quick question on possible purchase?

Post by benmuellerb »

Hi,

Been looking at getting a Spider for a long time. Got a guy who is selling his for a $1000.00, and it is pretty mint. Cut my teeth on rebuilding a couple Triumph TR-7's a few years back, so I think I'm ready for a Spider. Question is, it seems to have those nice electrical Gremilins. One in paticular is that the car stays running after you turn off the key and the charge light stays on. I'm thinking the ignition switch, but don't really. know.

Also, is a $1000.00 for a good looking / running Spider a good deal? i'd say everything is at least 90% on the car. He has been restoring it, but has run out of patience and time..too many projects you know. So, I've got no projects, a good running car and an empty garage. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ben

It sounds like a great deal to me if the body is solid and the interior is presentable.
I had the same problem with mine and installed a diode in the wire at the alternator.

I had to read your number several times to make sure that you were not saying ten thousand dollars.

Sheet metal that is true sheet metal (not bondo....) is vital. Electricals, and most mechanicals are replaceable. And, you will find that almost all interior and trim parts are obtainable in aftermarket form.

So long as it has a good body, and underbelly, i think a $1,000.00 Spider is a very good starting spot for a great project car.

How's the top? How's the paint? Brakes? these are all fixable, but will cost some cash.

Of course, we need pictures. Gotta have pictures.
