I have the clutch and flywheel removed. I tried to turn the pilot bearing when they were together and thought it felt good. Now that everything is apart, I noticed it should be replaced. I'm glad the throw out bearing was an issue. Even though the clutch felt good for the three miles I drove the car. It needs replaced. I took some pic's of everything. I'm going to have the flywheel surfaced tomorrow and the new Valeo clutch is on it's way along with the pilot bearing, throw out bearing , and crank shaft rear seal.

while everything is apart, check the throwout bearing arm. they will crack at the pivot point.

I finally got my new rear crank seal and pilot bearing in. I was installing the flywheel and realized how in the hell am I going to torque it to 105 ft. lbs. On the 1800 engines the flywheel bolts are M10 with a 12.9 class rating. I used my impact gun to tighten them. Of course I broke one and probably weakened the others. I bought new ones just to be sure.
I'm going to make an adapter to hold the flywheel to the block so I can go back to the torque wrench. :roll:

I used a ratcheting strap and strapped the flywheel to a table and cranked it down. I would love to get my valve covers looking like that!
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

Thanks for the tip.
I sent these to SoCal Mark. He had them ceramic coated at a shop he uses. Pretty cheap. :P

I have an IAP book 75-on and it stated to torque the flywheel bolts to 105 ft lbs. That must be for a 2000 eng with M12 bolts. But the book doesn't state that. I found out the torque rating for M10 bolts is only 62 ft lbs. Just wanted to let you all know so you don't do the same mistake breaking the bolt. If I were to break a bolt though, I'd want it to be the flywheel bolt. It was so easy to get out by taking off the flywheel. At first when I heard it break, I thought I was screwed. Got lucky this time. :roll:

I tried to find new dust covers but couldn't so I decided to fix the ones I have.

I got the bolts for the flywheel today. I took a piece of steel and drilled two holes in it to fit on the pins on the flywheel. I then torqued the bolts to 62 ft lbs with ease. :P

What do you mean? I have a short shifter but I think I like the long one better. I don't think your talking about that though.
