Re: So Cal Summer run.
Yesterday was one of those days you wish could last forever! The weather was perfect, the drive was fantastic, and the BBQ was to die for. The route Ace layed out took us up into the hills on some gorgeous windy roads to a lake at the top. We drove around the lake and back down to the coast (that's the Pacific ocean) and up the coast back to Ventura for the BBQ at Ace's place. Chicken, Tri tip, potato salad, beans, a great garden salad by Maureen (Ace's wife), a few games of Bocce ball and fellowship.
Sorry for all the superlatives, but the day deserves them.
My twin brother lives not too far from Ace, and he drove over in his '72 Corvette convertible for a little while. He was very impressed with the example of Spiders out front of the house.
Yours truly forgot to take a camera, so pictures will have to be provided by Ace, if I may prevail. (Thanks buddy.)
We missed you Mark. Sure wish you could have made it. Plus, that 'possum would have been a great topper for the meal.

Here are a few pics from our little drive and barbecue yesterday. I know I live way out here on the fringes, so thanks for driving all the way out here to spend the day!
Sorry I didn't get a picture of Ron and his Twin (and the '72 corvette). I was glad to meet him, Ron.

Looks like a great time! Those pix could only be better...if I was in them! Two questions
1) Who owns that gorgeous Mercury Cougar?
2) What the hell is tri tip?

Re: So Cal Summer run.
The '67 Cougar XR7 belongs to my son Caleb. My first car was a '68 Cougar, which I bought used in 1972 and kept all throught the years, and Caleb adopted it when he learned to drive. He unfortunately was caught in a head-on crash with a parked semi-flat bed trailor that was off-loading concrete highway barriers. He and his passenger undid their lap belts and walked away, which is a real testament to the crash-worthyness of the old crumple design technology. Anyway, he liked the car enough to really want another Cougar, so we eventualy found the '67 that you see there.

You missed Alvon climbing a tree, jumping onto the roof, going to the peak to get those shots. Being artistic can be dangerous!
Gary (tan t-shirt, owner of the mustard colored Spider) drove up from close to San Diego. The car has been in his family since brand new. Eladio, with his two precious daughters also made the trip from almost San Diego. Thanks for making the drive guys. It was great seeing George and his brother (don't tell your brother Cecat, his name skipped by pea brain).
And Mark, all work and no play makes for an early grave! Again, we missed ya buddy.
Tastes like chicken. We had something that tastes like chicken too. I'm pretty sure it was chicken.

chicken tastes like possum? who woulda thunk it? And yes, it's been pretty much all work and no play lately and I'm still not keeping up with the demands
Re: So Cal Summer run.

Thanks,Alvon
I had never heard of tri-tip(I thought it was those little maps you get from AAA!). I have never seen it here or Fla. ,so it seems like a regional dish.Sounds Great! My 2nd car was a Cougar,I traded a 67 Mustang fastback for it.It was the same color as your son's and had a 351 Cleveland in it .I loved that car,but traded it for a 69 GTO Judge.I could buy multiple Fiats ,for what any of those cars would be worth today.Ahhh..the days of disposable muscle cars! Glad the day worked out so well for you,and hoping someday to generate enough interest to do something similar here.I am trying!

Re: So Cal Summer run.
Sounds like fun, sorry I couldn't make it. I have a pretty unstable work schedule.
I need to do a few more maintenance items (mostly brakes--down to the metal almost) before I feel confident cruising the 80 miles or so into LA.

The girls an I had an amazing time. The car ran fantastic all 300+ miles. We unfortunatelly forgot our camera at home .
I want to thank ron for getting the ball rolling on this run and the entire Elrod family for making all of us feel right at home.
