I figured I would post some answers to some replies:
rlux4 - Danno was right, Mekels van is called a 600 Multipla. Is is based on the 600 sedan chassis, as evident from the rear of the van. Merkels is a US spec (larger head lights, euro ones had smaller, prettier units) '59 Multipla with a Abarth 1000 engine in it.
Danno - Ves, the green 124 does have Illinois plates on it. The owner, John, does not want to smog it so he registered it there. I think he has a home there aswell.
Well, we all had a great time there and Merkel wanted to send his thanks. I am pestering him to have another one. I love that canyon.
