Ok I'll play along with a posted free add. Posted a free dining room table with chairs. I get a call from some lady saying she would like the table as it would work perfect for her house. Then here it comes could I bring it to her as gas is expensive and the 60mile round trip just would be to much for her to afford. WTF I guess it must appear in the add that I can just toss money down the drain to drive a free table to some place 30 miles away. I might have done it if she offered to pay for gas but it would probably cost more to fill my gas tank than hers.
I also have a for sale one. I just listed my brothers Honda Odyssey on CL as he so nicely left it for me to sell it for him because he moved to Japan with his wife and two boys. Its a 04 with 33700 miles on it and one owner. All I got was how come it has low milage like I had managed to change it somehow. That and how come you are asking more than what kkb or nada or edmonds has it listed at this price. Duh maybe because its an average of all the cars being sold in that zip code area. Just enough info to be dangerously stupid.

Brad,

Just remember, when you meet the average person, they're smarter than half the country! People's stupidity never ceases to amaze me.

One of my favorites is the seller who says "NADA says it's worth $8000." Then when you see the car the reality is that it is going to take more than $8000 to make it actually worth $8000.

<<< section deleted - sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone! >>>

Another one I find quite often is "maintenance up to date." Too often that means they just got the oil changed. I shudder to think about how the car was really maintained when I ask them when the timing belt was last changed and they say "timing belt - what's that?"

The saddest one I have ever experienced was a person selling a Spider they had owned since 1984. The ad read "All original, minor body damage that is an easy fix." The car was perfect with with the exception of the bumper being mashed into the front fender and hood along with heavily damaged and dry radiator. They have their $10K price and they are sticking to it -- going on 3 years now. (UPDATE April 2, 2011 - she sold her car!)
