you can add a ground cable anywhere on the engine/tranny to the frame. I'd suggest putting it somewhere accessible so it be inspected ocassionally.
I'd also suggest repairing/replacing the clutch pedal soon, using it with bent forks will cause the cable to fail since it pulls the end at an angle

Removing the air pump from the engine leaves two studs on the lower front of the crankcase. Either one of these is an excellent place to add a ground strap. I have used a 16-18" long black battery cable with swaged on terminal ends. These are available at most any auto parts store for under $10. The other end is fastened securely to the inner fender well.
Viola - adding a ground is lots easier than crawling on your back on the ground after jacking up your car...just to inspect the existing ground strap. Whether you are having clutch cable trouble or not, this simple preventative maintenance item should be performed so you won't have issues in the future. Just do it!
