frustrated fiat owner

ok, here's the latest. It seems the pump is working but does not produce gas. Interestingly enough, I managed to hook it up backwards at one point and it moved lots of gas! granted it was in the wrong direction, but seemed to work well. sooooo.....
I am thinking the filter is clogged, and perhaps the pump is gummed up, I will take out tomorrow and clean. should this not resolve my issue, what is my next step? (other than taking a 9 pound hammer to it)I suspect the fuel rail and related components.

I think that there is a screen on the inlet side, maybe it's plugged?
