my hood has been a real problem for a long long time now i think the inner framework might have broken loose
because now its imposible unless you give it a himlick

heres some pics
the latch bar came off the 78 hood
the hood keeper came off the 80 i striped
the gap on the DS is bigger
the hinges show its pushing to the PS
it allways closed hard"slam from up high"
it seems to have bent the framework or something

You can try relocating the striker in the vertical plane when the hood is up so fresh metal is hitting the latch. But, the latches do wear out. I was having hood problems and I replaced the latch with a newer one and that solved the problem. Make sure the cable and emergency release pull aren't binding and preventing it from latching easily.
