I too live in Arizona and before the current laws, there was no equipment check for emissions here. I went through couple of emissions with the Air pump removed. This wasn't an issue with the new DFEV Carb. However, when I had the DMSA, I couldn't get the HC levels down without a functioning Air pump to pass Emissions.
Having said that, not sure about cars equipped with catalytic converters.
This weekend I started taking out the rest of the smog stuff from the head getting ready for my 1800 head/ 2L block conversion. I remember getting a set of Hex head bolts from Bayless some time back to block the Air Injection holes on the 1800 head.
As for Hagerty insurance, I pay $138/year for $10,000 agreed loss amount with no deductible. I had a hit and run few years back when the side was scraped by a truck. They paid up $2,200 with a local quote.
